Sammanfattning: The point of departure is an aim to study the impact a strategically engineered design process and a carefully selected set of tools can have on a design. Using computational tools in combination with a more traditional approach, the project investigates possible new green spaces in the harbour area of Malmö, which today lacks developed parks and green areas. The tools are selected based on an ambition to generate a spatial composition with a high degree of complexity, controlled by a clear logic. Climate data influences the final proposal in two different ways; firstly the precise location of the project is based on a sunlight hour analysis, secondly shading devices are informed by the amount of sunlight the design receives during summer. Timber was chosen as the structural material at an early stage and so was the structural strategy, which is a system based on the arch as the principal structural element. The final proposal is the result of simulations of structural behaviour in combination with active acts of design through an explorative process.
