Sammanfattning: This text is intended as a short introduction to the legal field of protection of personal data. The text takes up some recurring conflicts and difficulties of the subject through historical examples and a brief glance at the debate on the subject in the latter half of the 1900s in Sweden. During the examination of the Swedish debate, it's highlighted how computerization made the collection of personal information easier, as well as how more effective use has been made possible, in comparison to earlier historic examples. The text then goes on to look at the current Swedish legislation on the protection of personal data "Personuppgiftslagen", focusing on 5 a §. The text looks at the problems that the introduction of 5 a § was supposed to solve, and the articles success in this. The main problems were applying the law to private Internet users. Clause 5 a permitted processing of personal data if the management did not violate personal privacy. Through an analysis of the practice and the law's legislative history, however, the paper concluded that this simplification in practice is very complicated. The paper also draws attention to how this simplification does not go together with the data protection personal data should have under the law. The text then ends on a summary and a very brief look at the legal field's future.
