Sammanfattning: Local history is a recurring theme in the teachers' program for upper secondary school at Malmö University. It is, however, something that feels widely underused in the everyday work of an upper secondary school teacher. The aim of this study is therefore to investigate and highlight a few examples of how local history can be integrated in Swedish upper secondary school classes, and to get a deeper understanding of why teachers do or do not utilize local history in their everyday work. It also intends to discuss what purpose local history might serve in the classroom and what the discourse about local history might be between students and teachers. this study will also include two articles from New Zeeland and Australia, as well as Axel Hultmans studies made in schools in Norway to add an international perspective. These articles will be discussed at the end of the study. The studies made by Hultman rely a great deal on the cooperation between local historical reenactment groups and schools in Norway, this along with the close interaction between the indigenous people and schools in New Zeeland and Australia works as an contrast with the fieldtrips and city tours held by Swedish teachers on their own initiative.
