Sammanfattning: Children who have witnessed violence in their homes have not been considered victims of crime until recently and only few studies have been made regarding these children. It is crucial to investigate how these experiences affects the children and later on in their adult life. In my essay I will discuss this subject with the use of in-depth intervjues with three women. The informants/interviewees have experienced domestic violence where their mother has been abused either by their father or another adult man. The purpose of this essay is to investigate how violent experiences have affected and still affects the life of the informants. Further, the overall reason is to show that it is important for these children to have the opportunity to work through their experiences. The big questions in the essay are how adult life and childhood and teenage life of interviewees have been affected. Focus is on how the informants handle conflicts, identification and their relations with men. The conclusions drawn in the essay is that the women are strongly affected by their experiences. They are afraid of conflicts or they themselves use physical abuse. They have different strategies to avoid violence in their everyday life.
