The changes included a specification of the responsibilities for everyone in the construction process. It was at this time that the role as Health and Safety Coordinator during Execution (HSC-E) was introduced in Sweden. However, it has not been stated whether HSC-E should be an internal (employee at the construction company) or an external consultant. Purpose The purpose of this study is to see if an external HSC- E would be more effective than an internal HSC-E at a construction site in Sweden. Problems Which characters have a responsibility of the work enviroment during the building process? How does an external HSC-E versus an internal HSC-E function during execution faze? Method A qualitative study has been utilized regarding the interviews, which has resulted in the empirical data. A total of seven interviews have been conducted. The interviews are included by one test interview, three interviews with an internal HSC-E and three interviews with an external HSC-E. The literature study forms the theory and has been taken from the Internet, scientific articles and books. Conclusion Telling from the interviews, more or less everyone had a positive response about the role as a HSC-E being an external part of the organization. This study is not enough to tell whether the HSC-E should be internal or external and more studies should be conducted. More comments and views from, for example, the client and the building constructors should also be collected. Still, the author considers, and recommends, this role to be an external part of the organization that would be the one taking care of the working environment.
