Den önskvärda demokratin? - Om demokratins tillstånd och försvar

Detta är en Magister-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Statsvetenskapliga institutionen

Sammanfattning: This thesis deals with non-wanted political parties e.g. right wing populism. How should a democracy handle these opinions? So far these parties have been neglected and not even considered as real parties. By excluding them from the debate and the political arena, media and more established parties have seen them merely as a threat than as democratic parties. This causes several democratic dilemmas. By using the theories of both liberal and deliberative democracy I analyse how these parties have been confronted and why this is a democratic dilemma. The response, from the public in general, to non-wanted parties have indeed been both contra productive and in the grey zone of how a democratic society should handle these political parties. Instead right wing populism, as well as any form of populism, should not be treated differently but confronted as any other party. If we desire a democratic society, all parties should be treated with the same respect. That is, the value that a democracy stands for should be defended zealously like Kant and not rationally calculated like Bentham.
