Ledarskapsstilar : En studie över skillnader i ledarskapsstilar mellan Sverige och Grekland
Sammanfattning: The recent globalization has to some extent reduced the importance of specific cultures and instead creates a focus on the variation these different cultures provide. Under these circumstances the leader must adapt his leadership to face these new circumstances. The organisations today have to face these new leadership challenges which the global expansion brings. This is a prerequisite for organizations if they want to succeed and be more competitive in a more demanding environment. There are still big differences between the business cultures. There are also differences in the companies’ home arena, between groups in the society and all the way down on a family level. In Europe the differences in organizational structure between countries are very noticeable. The effect of this is that certain things are treated in a certain way depending on which country you are situated in. These can be things like power, motivation, awards, inequality and how written and unwritten rules make a foundation for how leaders and employees work. The problem when contending with this new environment is to be able to pinpoint the differences between the countries in these certain aspects so as to be able to adjust your leadership methods. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the basic differences in leadership between Sweden and Greece and also look closer on the organizational structure in the countries to see which effect they might have on the leadership. The cornerstone in the paper is a theory developed by Hersey and Blanchard which also comes with a specially developed test. In this test has there are twelve different situations which all have four different approaches you can choose in between. The purpose of this test is to ascertain what kind of leadership style the respondent employs. Beside the test, two interviews where made, the first one with Asteris Sidiropoulos, staff supervisor at Masoutis and the other with Torbjörn Segrell, supervising manager at ICA Sweden AB. Other theories which also been used in this paper is French and Ravens classification of the social power, Herzbergs two factor theory and The Path Goal Theory. In the following matrix you can see the results which the authors have reached in the paper. Sweden Greece Leader style Democratic & delegating Hierarchic & Authoritarian Organizations structure Flat Hierarchy Focus on motivation Integrated part in the development-work Unmotivated cost, no current interest Use of power Referring, expertise Legitimate, expertise This paper has given the authors insight into how leadership works and also what the organizational structures look like in the particular countries. The delimitations that have been made would most likely have an impact on the result and could also have helped explaining why these differences occur. It is of the utmost importance that you pay attention to those factors which serves as ground for how people act and behave.
