Närståendes upplevelser av delaktighet i beroendevården

Sammanfattning: Background: Development of mental or physical disability is a risk factor for close relatives living with a substance addict. How relatives experience participation in the care of people with substance dependence is largely described in biographies. Aim: To describe relatives experience of involvement in addiction care. Method: Qualitative analysis of biographies. Result: In the analysis, two main categories were identified by the relatives experiences, negative and positive experiences. The main categories were divided into subcategories where the negative experiences dominated and contained the experience of exclusion, inadequate information, their needs does not matter, distance and silence, healthcare providers do not listen, do not understand or can´t, the children need protection and responsibility is transferred to the relatives. Positive experiences were that there is help to get, that healthcare providers ask relatives how they are handling the situation and that they are invited to participate. Conclusion: According to biographies of relatives to people with substance addiction they reveal that they largely experience lack of participation with healthcare providers. Healthcare professionals need to include relatives in care based on experiences described in the literature. Keywords: Relative, Experience, Participation, Substance use disorder, Care, Co-dependent
