Sammanfattning: The requirements for operative planning activities are increasing. The forest industry wants to gain better control over wood flow. A felling that is more market adjusted is desirable. However, this causes problems in the operative planning process because of the data collection methods used today. Data about timber assortments and data about the distribution of the tree diameter, etc., are often lacking. Airborne laser scanning is used to a greater extent than before for estimation of forest variables and should perhaps be used to the same extent in operative planning activities as well. Also, the capacity of the harvester's computer systems has improved and should therefore be made more use of than it is today. In the future, the ability to combine laser data and measurement data from the harvester would make it possible to simulate adaptations across stands. This study shows that this type of data collection method is fully possible, provided that the problem with positioning the exact location of the felled trees is solved. This master's thesis has examined the method of determining the GPS-position in field of all individual trees inside different plots. The harvester then has identified and registered the different trees inside the plots. A connection has been made between the GPS-positioned trees and the crown segment detected with the laser data. The result of this study shows reasonable estimates of average stem volume (RMSE = 11 %), average height (RMSE = 5 %) and distribution of the tree diameter (Error index = 0.36) at stand level (~ 0.1 ha).
