Sammanfattning: Today's economy is unsustainable as it leads to the over consumption of raw materials and other resources. The circular economy is an idea for an economy based on circular principles. One of the key principles is that society must work to reach higher up the waste hierarchy, and prosecution of recycling and waste prevention. One of the circular economy's building blocks are business models that are based on a circular approach rather than a linear process, where resource use should be minimized as far as possible. In order to implement the ideas of circular economy the right incentives and infrastructure needs to be in place. The aim of this exploratory study is to examine successful infrastructure solutions to see how the leading municipalities work circular economy in practice. Three interesting municipal initiatives have been studied more in depth, and provides common success factors that have been identified. These include political acceptance and momentum, confidence in the business model and cross-border expertise where both the economy and the environment are included. Further studies analyzing this to a greater degree is essential if we are to continue to live in the abundance that we do today.
