Vad kan Sölvesborgs kommun vidta för åtgärder för att öka värdena i ett av deras tätortsnära skogsområde?
Sammanfattning: In the municipality Sölvesborg in the county Blekinge located in south Sweden, there is an area which the municipality have planned as ”nature”. It is an area of forest, dominated by beech. After being in contact with the municipality ecologist we started this project with the aim to come up with ideas for how to increase the values in the area, both ecologic and social. We have also discussed how the area could be used as a link to create a corridor between two adjacent nature reserves to the area to make it easier for threatened species to move between these areas. To make sure to keep this area as nature also in the future we have also discussed what formal protection it can get. We surveyed the area to map the natural values like snags and old trees with significant structures. We also noted if we saw any particularly important birds like woodpeckers and we noted where we found frogspawn. By using the program ArcGIS we made complete maps of the natural values. Although we found natural values we did not think that it was enough for the threatened species in the nature reserves to live there. For example, we found a lack of snags which the Stictoleptura scutellata, that lives in one of the reserves, is dependent on. Based on this conclusion we have created a list with actions that could be done.
