Kandidat-uppsats, Högskolan Dalarna/Institutionen för kultur och samhälleSammanfattning : The purpose of this essay is to examine the Swedish missionaries' work within the Swedish Evangelical Mission Society (Evangeliska Fosterlands-Stiftelsen, EFS) and The Pentecostal Mission (Pingstmissionen) in Tanganyika in 1957-1961. How was the mission's undertaking formulated by the missionaries, how did they legitimize their presence in Tanganyika, what image of Tanganyika's inhabitants did they give in their reports back to Sweden, and how did the missionaries relate to the African colonies’ growing demands for independence? The source material for the survey consists of the 1957 and 1961 issues of EFS’ and The Pentecostal Mission’s official weekly newspapers that regularly published articles and letters written by missionaries in Tanganyika. 2. Worshipping on Zoom: A Digital Ethnographic Study of African Pentecostals Churches and their Liturgical Practices during Covid-19
Magister-uppsats, Malmö universitet/Fakulteten för kultur och samhälle (KS)Sammanfattning : Drawing on theoretical concepts of affordance and affect, and by conducting a digital ethnographic research on African Pentecostal communities in Northern Italy, the research analyses how offline liturgical practice are translated in online platforms such as Zoom and Free Conference Call during the Covid-19 global pandemic. It is argued that online affordances such as the chat box and emojis are used by believers to communicate affective moments during worship services, while the mute button is used as a tool by leaders to wield their power to restore order and surveillance.
