  1. 1. An Inexpensive Alpha Spectrometer Based on a p-i-n Photodiode : Making Advanced Particle Detectors From Common Commercial Components

    Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för materialvetenskap

    Författare :Elias Arnqvist; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Alpha spectroscopy; alpha particle; particle detector; radiation detector; p-i-n diode; PIN diode; photodiode;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this project was to design, construct, and evaluate an alpha spectrometer based on an inexpensive p-i-n photodiode as a radiation detector. The BPX-61 p-i-n photodiode was selected and calculated to have a 93 µm wide sensitive volume at 25 V reverse bias. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Implementation and characterization of Silicon detectors for studies on neutron-induced nuclear reactions

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad kärnfysik

    Författare :Leo Lehtilä; [2019]
    Nyckelord :Silicon detector; Silicon telescope; Ultra-thin silicon detector; Energy resolution; Radioactive source; Am-241; Cf-252; Fission Fragments; Alpha Particles;

    Sammanfattning : Energy resolution characteristics of silicon surface barrier detector signals amplified by different preamplifiers and spectroscopic amplifiers have been studied. The characterization has been done using alpha particles from an 241Am source and spontaneous fission fragments from two Cf sources. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Development and Characterization of Parallel-Plate Avalanche Counters for Nuclear Physics Experiments

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad kärnfysik

    Författare :Matthias Carlsson; [2018]
    Nyckelord :PPAC; Parallel-Plate Avalanche Counters; Gas Ionizing Detector; Gas Amplification; Characterization; NFS; Radioactive source; Am-241; Cf-252; Fission Fragments; Alpha Particles; Time Resolution; Angular Dependence; Gas Pressure Dependence; Townsend Coefficient; PPAC Design; Manufacture; Manufacturing; Mylar foil; Aluminium Evaporation;

    Sammanfattning : Parallel-plate avalanche counters, PPACs, are commonly used to detect fission fragments. The PPAC detects them and mark (very accurately) the time of detection. Such measurements can be used to measure the neutron energy (via time-of-flight) to study neutron-induced fission. LÄS MER
