    Sammanfattning : The principle of keeping culture at arm’s length from politicians has been a long-standing tradition in Swedish cultural politics but has recently become more of a salient political issue. Municipalities is one level of government that handles a large part of the public funding of cultural activities but has no constitutional protection implementing this principle, instead it is implemented through upheld local norms and individual politician respect for the principle.
