    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study is to create an understanding of how American media depicts Asian- Americans and the hate and violence against them during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study analyses two American newspapers: The New York Times and USA Today to answer the following questions: How does The New York Times and USA Today depict hate crimes against Asian-Americans? Which individuals get to make their voices heard in the articles about hate against Asian-Americans? Which identities are given to Asian-Americans and how are they communicated? What are the potential consequences of depicting Asian-Americans in the way the media does? The theory and method used in this study is Laclau and Mouffes’s discourse theory, which is suitable for a study where the aim is to understand the nature of something. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The South Korean boycott movement of Japan that emerged over the summer of 2019 represents a drastic decline in Japan-South Korea relations. This thesis focused on how the boycott movement was framed in the five big national Japanese newspapers over a 50-day period in August and September 2019 in order to understand how the Japanese press constructs South Korean identity vis-àvis Japan.     Sammanfattning : This essay explores the foreign policy rhetoric of China through its official press agency Xinhua’s English web-based version in the case of China’s territorial dispute with Japan over the Senkaku/Diaoyu//Diaoyutai (S/D) islands. The dispute was brought to life in September 2012 and the essay covers Xinhua’s rhetoric between then and September 2014 through a rhetorical analysis of articles published on the matter at five different time intervals.
