  1. 1. Antarctic Subglacial Lakes as Environmental Analogues for Possible Hidden Biospheres on the Moons Europa and Enceladus

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Jonas Fahlman; [2023]
    Nyckelord :astrobiology; icy moons; subglacial lakes; ice dynamics; thermal regimes; extremophiles; anthropogenic contamination; astrobiologi; ismånar; subglaciala sjöar; is-dynamik; termiska regimer; extremofiler; antropologisk kontaminering;

    Sammanfattning : The evolving science of astrobiology for the search for life beyond Earth has put focus on the possibility of subsurface bodies of liquid water beneath the surface of icy moons within our Solar System. Specifically, the Jovian moon of Europa and the Saturnian moon of Enceladus show telling characteristics of endogenous heating through their complex tidal resonances with their parent planets – suggesting the presence of oceans of liquid water and therefore a potential for astrobiology. 2. 2. Intercomparison of a Dynamic Ocean for Earth-like Aqua-planets

    Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi

    Författare :Fredrik Plane; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Astrobiology; Planets; Aqua-planets; Atmosphere and Ocean physics; Exoplanet; Habitability; General Circulation Model; GCM; Climate Modelling; Dynamic Ocean;

    Sammanfattning : I present herein an ensemble of ROCKE-3D aqua-planet simulations which I compare with the simulations presented in the work of Yang et al. (2019) and other similar works. The focus was on contrasting differences in the greenhouse effect between the models. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Planetary Mineral Database Development and Validation of Spectra Classification Methods

    L3-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi

    Författare :Sam Taylor; [2022]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Future astronauts working on planetary bodies need to have a detailed understanding of their surroundings and get real-time feedback from their tools to properly explore these bodies. As such, the ESA PANGAEA course trains astronauts in astrobiology and geology to help with their research as well as providing analytical techniques for sampling and scientific analysis in the field. 4. 4. Carbon Abundance in the Milky Way Galaxy

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation

    Författare :Calum Kvernes Macpherson; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Carbon; Abundance; Milky Way; Chemical Evolution; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : Carbon is the fourth most abundant element after hydrogen, helium and oxygen. It is a product of stellar nucleosynthesis as well as it being an important bio signature for life; this makes the analysis of carbon very fundamental. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Search for Preserved Methanogenic Organisms in Ophiolitic Rocks through Lipid Biomarker Analysis – Implications for Astrobiological Explorations

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Alexandra Zetterlind; [2020]
    Nyckelord :ophiolite; deep biosphere; archaea; methanogenesis; chemosynthesis; serpentinite-hosted ecosystems; lipid biomarkers; astrobiology; ofiolit; djupbiosfär; arkeér; metanogener; kemosyntes; serpentinit-drivna ekosystem; lipidbiomarkörer; astrobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Serpentinization is a metamorphic low-temperature geological process, involving a series of chemical reactions that hydrate ultramafic rocks into serpentines and other minerals such as magnetite and brucite. Moreover, the process produces heavily reducing and highly alkaline fluids together with molecular hydrogen (H2) and methane (CH4), which have the capacity to support chemosynthetic microbial life.
