  1. 1. Metallurgical analysis of some osmund iron from Sweden and Estonia : A short historical review of medieval iron production and export

    Kandidat-uppsats, KTH/Materialvetenskap

    Författare :Ellinor Fischbein; Felicia Larsson; [2021]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : During the Middle Ages, Sweden was a coveted exporter of high-quality iron in Europe. Bloomery furnaces could have produced osmund iron. However, most osmund iron was produced in blast furnaces. The iron was then treated in the finery process and cut into pieces. LÄS MER

  2. 2. From Bloomery Furnace to Blast Furnace : Archeometallurgical Analysis of Medieval Iron Objects From Sigtuna and Lapphyttan, Sverige

    Kandidat-uppsats, KTH/Materialvetenskap

    Författare :Andreas Helén; Andreas Pettersson; [2019]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : During the Early Middle Ages, the iron production in Sweden depended on the bloomery furnace, which up to that point was well established as the only way to produce iron. Around the Late Middle Ages, the blast furnace was introduced in Sweden. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Examination of Ancient Scandinavian Archaeological Findings : From Tortuna in Västerås, Sweden

    Kandidat-uppsats, KTH/Skolan för industriell teknik och management (ITM)

    Författare :Jacob Blinke; Evelynne Geiger; Amanda Edlund; [2018]
    Nyckelord :Forging; microstructure; steel manufacturing; Iron Ages; bloomery furnace; amulet rings; edge tools; horse cleat; Vickers hardness; Smide; mikrostruktur; ståltillverkning; järnåldern; blästerugn; amulettringar; eggverktyg; hästbrodd; Vickers hårdhet;

    Sammanfattning : This study concerns the examinations of archaeological steel-objects from the Iron Ages, found in Tortuna outside Västerås, Sweden. Not many metallurgical analyses have been made on steel objects from the Iron Ages, most likely in order to preserve the findings. Therefore, very little knowledge about old steel materials exists. 4. 4. Geochemical impact of a bloomery : Tracing a bloomery furnace in peat records with geochemistry in central Sweden

    Master-uppsats, Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Författare :Philine Thöle; [2016]
    Nyckelord :Geochemistry; Bloomery furnace; Iron production; Paleolimnology;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to work out whether bloomery activities might have left a geochemical imprint in two mires close to a known bloomery and identify differences between the geochemical signals in the mires. Therefore two peat profiles (140 cm deep) and a series of bulk samples (composite of 10-60 cm) were taken near the remains of a bloomery close to Ängersjö, Hälsingland, which has one documented radiocarbon date of AD 1300-1435. 5. 5. Jordbrukets och järnframställningens påverkan på skogsutvecklingen vid Eskilshult, en by med medeltida anor : en studie baserad på pollenanalys

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Forest Ecology and Management

    Författare :Martin Karlsson; [2014]
    Nyckelord :Pollenanalys; järnhantering; skogsutveckling; blästerugnsbruk; agrar verksamhet; pollen analysis; bloomery furnace; iron works; agrarian activities; forest development;

    Sammanfattning : Människans påverkan på den omgivande miljön har ökat genom historien med ökad bofasthet och samhällsbildning. Vid övergången järnålder-medeltid, när Sverige började ta form som rike skedde flera förändringar inom jordbruk, teknik och samhälle. LÄS MER
