  1. 1. The nutrient-color paradigm : A test based on a comperative analysis of lakes in four ecoregions in Sweden

    Master-uppsats, Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Författare :Viktoria Nordström; [2021]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The nutrient-color paradigm explains lake productivity as a function of the concentrations of nutrients and colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM) in the water column.  Specifically, the paradigm predicts that primary production decreases with increasing concentrations of CDOM due to reduced light penetration, and increases with nitrogen or phosphorus concentration because these are typically the growth limiting elements for phytoplankton. 2. 2. The effects of eutrophication and browning on prey availability and performance of the three-spined stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus)

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. Of Aquatic Resources

    Författare :Olivia Bell; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Baltic Sea; benthic habitats; body growth; climate change; coastal areas; diet; fish; stickleback; zooplankton;

    Sammanfattning : Shallow coastal areas often have high productivity and diversity, in part due to the high availability of light and nutrients. At the same time, they are exposed to multiple environmental pressures, such as browning and eutrophication. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Photo-chemical reactivity of dissolved organic carbon in subarctic lakes from northern Sweden

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Hani Younes; [2020]
    Nyckelord :Photo-reactivity; DOM; subarctic lakes; EEM-PARAFAC. Brownification; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Dissolved organic matter (DOM) is the major absorber of sunlight in most natural waters and a critical component of the carbon cycle in aquatic systems. The photochemical decomposition of DOM can have a significant impact on the landscape-atmosphere carbon exchange. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Can we use optical sensors in highly turbid agricultural streams?

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Soil and Environment

    Författare :Ana Paula Abade Smoginski; [2017]
    Nyckelord :optical sensors; phosphorus and sediment losses; turbidity; organic matter; agricultural catchments;

    Sammanfattning : Optical sensors are advanced technology capable of monitoring water quality con-tinuously at high temporal resolution. Optical sensors are prone to errors when deployed in streams with high sediment content. Agricultural streams, with high and variable suspended sediment loads, can affect the performance of these instru-ments. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The suitability of using Landsat TM-5 Images for estimating chromophoric dissolved organic matter in subarctic Lakes

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Julia Jakobsson; [2014]
    Nyckelord :CDOM; dissolved organic carbon; colored dissolved organic matter; Chromophoric; landsat thematic mapper 5; subarctic lakes; Stordalen; empirical algorithm.; Abisko; DOC; remote sensing; Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Recent trends of permafrost thawing in the subarctic are expected to cause increased release of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) to inland waters, which might have cascading effects on downstream aquatic ecosystems and release of CO2 to the atmosphere. This study therefore aimed at evaluating the applicability of an empirical band ratio algorithm for estimating chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM; a proxy for DOC) from the easily accessible satellite images Landsat TM-5, to counter the inaccessibility of the region in general.
