    Sammanfattning : This bachelor’s thesis in Historical Archaeology concerns how the royal medals of the Swedish King Gustav III (1756-1792) functioned as a means of political propaganda, namely in what ways an official legitimizing narrative was created about the country’s economy and the role of the King herein, through the images and texts of the royal medals. Inspired by Clifford Geertz’ anthropological perspective on authority it views the royal medal as a means of communication and as a branch of a greater “master fiction” that monarchy created around itself. Most of them were used as silver in a bullion-economy and were often fragmented because of this.     Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis’ topic is to investigate the evolutionary dispersal of the Charon’s fee or Obolus rite outside the Roman provinces in Northern Europe, with a specific focus on Roman Iron Age and Migration Period Scandinavia. The aim of this study is therefore to add further understanding to the spread of Roman cultural influences outside the imperial borders and what made Roman material and ideological culture so attractive to the Germanic and Scandinavian Iron Age peoples.
