1. Constructing a civilized wilderness. An intersectional discourse analysis of the Sierra Club 1893-1910
Kandidat-uppsats,Sammanfattning : This study investigates if and how the Sierra Club adapted complex and contradictory rationalizations to legitimize their authority in wilderness and civilization. The study aims thereby to enhance our understanding of the origin narrative of the American preservation and conservation movement at the turn of the twentieth century which depicted white male heroes as discoverers and protectors of a pristine wilderness. 2. Optimization of loads and power production for wind turbines in Swedish conditions
Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapsläraSammanfattning : The project aims at quantifying differences in power production and fatigue loads for wind turbines placed in the Baltic sea and in forested, topographically-complex areas compared to turbines placed offshore and in flat terrain. Based on these results, suggestions will be provided on how to optimally site and operate turbines in these conditions. LÄS MER
3. Wildfire growth modelling in Sweden - a suitability assessment of available data
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskapSammanfattning : Wildfires are worldwide problems that stress societies by damaging their economies and they cause serious, sometimes fatal, health implications among the populations. In recent years, the rate of wildfire occurrence has increased as the global average temperature has risen. Because of global climate change, this rate is expected to continue rising. LÄS MER
4. Betesmönster hos älg (Alces alces) vintertid i fjällnära skog : En studie av födoval i relation till trädslagssammansättning och habitat
Kandidat-uppsats, Karlstads universitet/Fakulteten för hälsa, natur- och teknikvetenskap (from 2013)Sammanfattning : Browsing patterns in large herbivorous mammals are complex and decisions regarding food items occur at different levels depending on internal or external factors such as energy requirements and available food sources. A broader understanding of the behavior of animals living in habitats of economic interests for humans enables human exploitation with as little impact as possible on the animals' habitats. LÄS MER
5. Signed Distance Field For Deformable Terrain Shovel Collision Detection
Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Umeå universitet/Institutionen för fysikSammanfattning : One commonly used representation of complex objects in physics-based simulations are triangle meshes. This representation utilizes a collection of triangles to approximate an object. An alternative representation is a Signed Distance Field (SDF). LÄS MER
