    Sammanfattning : Síntesis:El diccionario de la Real Academia de la lengua define un mexicanismo como ‘vocablo, giro o modo de hablar propio de los mexicanos’, y este trabajo es el resultado de una investigación sobre los mexicanismos en la obra literaria Como agua para chocolate escrita por la autora mexicana Laura Esquivel (1989). Aparte de investigar la presencia de mexicanismos, el objetivo general de este trabajo ha sido investigar la etimología de los mexicanismos presentados en este mismo libro para seguir la pista del origen, la primera documentación, el cambio de la forma y significado desde su primera documentación hasta hoy.
