  1. 1. Effect of Touch on Cotton and Maize : influence on plant morphology and feeding preference in Spodoptera littoralis

    Kandidat-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Plant Protection Biology

    Författare :Anna Magnusson; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Mechanical stimuli; cotton; maize; thigmomorphogenesis; Spodoptera littoralis; induced defence; plant-plant interaction;

    Sammanfattning : Plants are constantly exposed to touch and mechanical stimuli in natural environments, from rain, wind, animals and plant neighbours. However, current knowledge and understanding of how touch physiologically affects plants are limited. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Effect of diet and density on larval immune response and larval and adult host-preference in Spodoptera littoralis

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Plant Protection Biology

    Författare :Sophie Chattington; [2015]
    Nyckelord :artificial encapsulation; Egyptian cotton leafworm; immune response; innate preference hierarchy; larval density; larval development; larval memory; oviposition choice; phenoloxidase; Spodoptera littoralis; Y-tube;

    Sammanfattning : Polyphagy presents difficulties to an insect, especially in terms of host choice. The adult insect must choose from a large number of possible host plant species, something which is considered to require extensive neural capacity to process. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Female mate choice and modulation of oviposition preference in the moth Spodoptera littoralis

    Kandidat-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Biosystems and Technology (from 130101)

    Författare :Amanda Karlström; [2013]
    Nyckelord :Spodoptera littoralis; female mate choice; precopulatory assessment; host plant; selection; oviposition; Aedes aegypti; experience;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, two aspects of reproductive behaviour in the Egyptian cotton leafworm, Spodoptera littoralis (Lepidoptera:Noctuidae) were studied. The first was whether female moths make a mate choice based on precopulatory assessments of male mating partners, and the second whether larval food plant experience of an ectoparasite modulates the female choice of oviposition site. 4. 4. The effect of non-host plant volatiles on the reproductive behaviour of the Egyptian cotton leafworm, Spodoptera littoralis

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of People and Society

    Författare :Altaf Hussain; [2012]
    Nyckelord :Adhatoda vasica; electrophysiology; Justicia adhatoda; Lepidoptera; Noctuidae; non-host plants; reproductive behaviour; semiochemical diversity; socioeconomics; Spodoptera littoralis; spruce;

    Sammanfattning : Spodoptera littoralis is a major pest of cotton in Egypt, causing serious economic losses. Egyptian farmers highly appreciate biological control of the pest as synthetic pesticides are very unsustainable. Phytophagous insects rely on plant volatiles to locate oviposition, feeding and, mating sites. We tested newly emerged S. LÄS MER
