Within the themes bodily transitions and the new self the movies are explored mainly through Julia Kristeva’s concept of the abject as understood by Erin Flaherty, Jennie Olofssons and Elizabeth Grosz’s understanding of leakage and Reawyn Connell’s model of hegemonic masculinity. The idea is to look at selected poems by Plath without taking into account biographical data. The thesis investigates death as perfection, the act of dying and the performative aspect of rebirth.
