1. Can We Predict Business Cycles With Natural Language Processing?
D-uppsats, Handelshögskolan i Stockholm/Institutionen för nationalekonomiSammanfattning : For centuries, many economists have attempted to solve the puzzle of business cycles; what explains them, and is it possible to predict them? The great amount of electronically available textual data, together with the recent advancements in unsupervised natural language processing are bound to offer new ways of analysing these perennial questions. Inspired with the emergence of narrative economics as a new field of economic analysis, I propose a novel research design to computationally extract business cycle sentiment from textual data on economic expectations. 2. Classification of Drill Core Textures for Process Simulation in Geometallurgy : Aitik Mine, Sweden
Master-uppsats, Luleå tekniska universitet/Mineralteknik och metallurgiSammanfattning : This thesis study employs textural classification techniques applied to four different data groups: (1) visible light photography, (2) high-resolution drill core line scan imaging (3) scanning electron microscopy backscattered electron (SEM-BSE) images, and (4) 3D data from X-ray microtomography (μXCT). Eleven textural classes from Aitik ores were identified and characterized. LÄS MER

4. Change Detection in Stockholm between 1986 and 2006 using SPOT Multispectral and Panchromatic Data
Master-uppsats, KTH/Geodesi och geoinformatikSammanfattning : With an increasing urban population in Sweden, expecting to reach 90% by 2050 (UN World Urbanization prospects, The 2011 Revision), this high level of urban population put pressure on functioning infrastructure, sufficient housing and need to monitor the environmental effects such as pollution and the effects of land use change. Stockholm County currently holds 22% of the population and accounts for nearly half of the urban growth in Sweden (Svensk Handelskammare). LÄS MER
5. EUROPEAN PATTERNS OF UNEMPLOYMENT: A Spatial Analysis of Regional Unemployment in Europe
Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Nationalekonomiska institutionenSammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to investigate the structural evolution and spatial pattern of regional unemployment rates in the EU for the period 1999-2009. Several previous studies have found large disparities across Europe’s regions, contrary to what neoclassic theory predict would be the effect of regional integration. LÄS MER
