My starting point for the analysis takes its inspiration from the more contemporary notion of ”constructing the social” but tries to focus on a result that can be free from the highly abstract discourse theory put forward by Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe. Based on the assumption that concepts of gender equality, supposedly self-evident, actually subsume different meanings, the aim of this study was to examine how political players and school authorities articulate the concept of gender equality and the subsequent task of the Swedish school system to achieve said impartiality.
