  1. 1. Spatio-temporal drought characteristics in the Limpopo basin from 1918 to 2018 - A case study based on analysis of the Standardized Precipitation Evaporation Index (SPEI)

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Sandra Domingos Sambo; [2021]
    Nyckelord :rdought; Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index; Limpopo River basin; Normalized difference vegetation index; Mann-Kendall Test; Correlation analysis; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The identification of the characteristics of drought are of great importance in water resources planning and management. This study explored the characteristics of drought at Limpopo River Basin (LRB) from 1918 to 2018. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The intraspecific drought tolerance of Betula pendula Roth. : ecotypic aptitude as tree selection criteria for the urban landscape

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Department of Plant Breeding (from 130101)

    Författare :Simon Hannus; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Betula pendula; clinal variation; drought tolerance; ecosystem services; ecotypes; potential evapotranspiration; turgor loss point; urban forestry; urban resilience; urban tree selection;

    Sammanfattning : The ecosystem services provided by urban trees are substantial contributors to the quality of urban living, and their environmentally regulating capabilities are increasingly regarded as integral in order to efficiently secure urban resilience, by ameliorating the human and material impacts of extreme weather events. However, current trends of urban development presents challenges of how to preserve urban greenery ecosystem functioning, particularly in light of the ongoing climate change; which also has brought forth the importance of taxonomically diverse urban forests, to mitigate risks of catastrophic tree loss associated with these conditions. 3. 3. The potential for Binding PFAS Using Biochar and Phytoremediation

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Josefin Alice Maria Svensson; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Physical geography; ecosystem analysis; PFAS; Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances; remediation; phytoremediation; biochar; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : PFAS is a group of long-lasting chemicals with multiple known toxicological effects which has been found everywhere in nature. One of the possible source points of PFAS is via landfill through leachate leaving the area. It is therefore important to investigate and implementing remediation techniques to reduce the contamination risk. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Testing the potential to evaluate vegetation optical depth with ecosystem water dynamics in a temperate forest

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Ainahu Abdul Hamid; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Physical geography; Ecosystem analysis; Vegetation optical depth; Temperate Forest; Climate; LPJ-GUESS; Evapotranspiration; Leaf water potential; Isohydricity; Hydraulic failure; Carbon starvation; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Warming trends have been associated with drought which induces and heightens agents and factors that cause tree mortality. Remotely sensed observations are increasingly being used in vegetation studies and are obtained from Earth observation satellites. LÄS MER
