  1. 1. Seroprevalence of foot and mouth disease and peste des petits ruminants in small ruminants in Zambia on the border to Tanzania : Searching for common traits among seropositive herds

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, SLU/Dept. of Clinical Sciences

    Författare :Lydia Mitternacht; [2019]
    Nyckelord :foot and mouth disease; peste des petits ruminants; sheep and goat plague; seroprevalence; small ruminants; Zambia; transboundary diseases; sheep; goats; FMD; PPR;

    Sammanfattning : Foot and mouth disease (FMD) and peste des petits ruminants (PPR) are highly contagious viral diseases affecting sheep and goats all over the world. Small ruminants are often owned by poor small-scale farmers in the developing world, and several studies have identified them to be among the most important livestock species for the poor. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Tracking transboundary diseases in small ruminants in the border region Tanzania-Zambia : a minor field study focusing on Peste des petits ruminants and Foot-and-mouth disease

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, SLU/Dept. of Clinical Sciences

    Författare :Elsa Wilén; [2019]
    Nyckelord :FMD; PPR; infectious diseases; sheep; goats; Tunduma; Momba; risk factor; seroprevalence;

    Sammanfattning : Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) and Foot and mouth disease (FMD) are two infectious diseases of major socioeconomic impact. The devastating effects of these diseases are mostly seen in developing countries, such as Tanzania, where small ruminants play an important role in livelihood resilience and are a major source of income. 3. 3. Foot and mouth disease in and near the Maasai Mara, Kenya

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Clinical Sciences

    Nyckelord :Foot and mouth disease; FMD; FMDV; Kenya; Livestock; Prevalence; Cattle; Maasai Mara;

    Sammanfattning : Livestock is very important to the sub-Saharan pastoralists, and the health and wellbeing of the cattle, which are a large portion of the livestock that the farmer keeps, can make or break a family’s livelihood. One important disease in cattle is foot and mouth disease (FMD), a highly contagious disease affecting many species of both cloven–hoofed wildlife and livestock such as cattle. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Seroprevalence of CCPP, FMDV, BTV and BVDV among small ruminants in Tanzania : A minor field study with focus on differential diagnoses of peste des petits ruminants virus

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, SLU/Dept. of Clinical Sciences

    Författare :Malin Päärni; [2016]
    Nyckelord :peste des petits ruminants virus; foot and mouth disease virus; bluetongue virus; bovine viral diarrhoea; border disease virus; contagious caprine pleuropneumonia; seroprevalence; Tanzania; sheep; goats;

    Sammanfattning : This degree project has been performed as a Minor Field Study (MFS) in Tanzania, investigating the seroprevalence in goats and sheep of three diseases causing similar signs as peste des petits ruminants virus (PPRV): foot and mouth disease (FMD), bluetongue (BT) and contagious caprine pleuropneumonia (CCPP), as well as bovine viral diarrhoea (BVD) and border disease (BDV) which is believed to affect an outbreak of PPR due to immunosuppression. Sheep and goats play a key role in national food and nutritional security, income security and livelihood resilience in the least economically developed countries across the world and because of the complicated epidemiology and socio-economic impact of these diseases it is of great interest to further evaluate the prevalence of PPRV and its differential diagnosis.
