1. Total carbon sequestration during an entire rotation period of oil palm in northern Borneo
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Forest Ecology and ManagementSammanfattning : Considerable amounts of carbon (C) has been lost from tropical forests as a result of continuous conversion of tropical forests into oil palm plantations. Therefore, a better understanding of the C budget and potential sequestration rate in oil palm plantations and how it compares to natural forests is needed. LÄS MER
2. Above- and belowground carbon stocks and effects of enrichment planting in a tropical secondary lowland dipterocarp rainforest
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Forest Ecology and ManagementSammanfattning : The intact tropical rainforests are rapidly being degraded and subsequently converted to other land uses, with associated greenhouse gas emissions and loss of biodiversity. It is imperative that the effects of such conversions and large-scale restoration efforts on forest structure and ecosystem services are understood to effectively be able to counteract the negative consequences of deforestation and forest degradation. 3. Abundance and diversity of small mammals in Swedish beaver systems
Magister-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Aquatic Sciences and AssessmentSammanfattning : Through their ecosystem engineering activities, beavers (Castor fiber ) create ponds and riparian zones littered with deadwood, providing hetero- geneous micro-habitats for a variety of small mammal species. In this study small mammals were snap-trapped in nine beaver systems and four reference wetland systems that were not created by beavers in southern and central Sweden to compare abundance and diversity of voles, shrews and mice. 4. Effekt av fin ved (Salix sp.) på drift i semi-naturliga bäckar
Kandidat-uppsats, Karlstads universitet/Institutionen för miljö- och livsvetenskaperSammanfattning : In streams, wood provides protection, food and substrate for benthic macroinvertebrates, which leads a higher density and diversity of the benthic fauna compared to streams without wood. To examine wood and its effect on drift of macroinvertebrates an experiment was done in 18 sections of six semi-natural streams where fine woody debris (Salix sp. LÄS MER
5. The secret role of elephants : mediators of habitat scale and within-habitat scale predation risk
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental StudiesSammanfattning : Elephants have long been recognized as important mediators of savannah vegetation structure. With their activities, like feeding on woody plants they may increase visibility of a habitat and produce coarse woody debris within that habitat. LÄS MER
