1. Methane Sulphonic Acid in East Antarctic Coastal Firn and Ice Cores and Its Relationship with Chlorophyll-a and Sea Ice Extent in the Southern Ocean
Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaperSammanfattning : The seasonal retreat of sea ice in the austral spring and summer around Antarctica has a significant effect on phytoplankton activity, mainly due to light availability, meltwater input of dissolved iron, and surface water stratification. Phytoplankton produce dimethylsulfoniopropionate, the precursor to the climate-cooling gas dimethyl sulphide, which is ventilated to the atmosphere and oxidised to methane sulphonic acid (MSA). 2.
Kandidat-uppsats, Södertörns högskola/MiljövetenskapSammanfattning : The Baltic Sea is a brackish water that is severely affected by eutrophication. Anthropogenic (human) nitrogen emissions is a contributing factor leading to algal blooms and hypoxic and anoxic seabeds. Municipal wastewater treatment plants account for 27 percent of the nitrogen emissions into the Baltic Proper. LÄS MER
4. Kalkningseffekter på plankton : ett mesokosmexperiment i den kalkrika sjön Tåkern
Kandidat-uppsats, Linköpings universitet/BiologiSammanfattning : One of today's major environmental issues is algal blooms linked to eutrophication of lakes and oceans. That is a result of anthropogenic influence with nutrient loads (including phosphorus) from agriculture and industry, which benefits primary production (phytoplankton). LÄS MER
5. Response of Phytoplankton to Climatic Changes during the Eocene-Oligocene Transition at the North Atlantic ODP Site 612
Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaperSammanfattning : The development of modern glacial climates occurred during the Eocene-Oligocene transition (34 to 35.5 Ma) when a decrease of atmospheric CO2 led to a global temperature fall. The ocean was deeply affected, both in the surface and the deep-sea, suffering a strong reorganization including currents and phytoplankton distribution. LÄS MER
