1. Hyperspectral and multispectral satellite data analysis of nitrogen in grazed and ungrazed tundra in Långfjället, Sweden
Master-uppsats, Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaperSammanfattning : Reindeer are a keystone species in the circumpolar north, where they hold great cultural and ecological importance. Continued climate change threatens the long-term sustainability of reindeer husbandry. Reindeer can affect the tundra landscape, influencing the soil nutrient cycling, including the soil nitrogen availability. LÄS MER
2. Forest, Tree, and Shrub limit responses to a century of climate change in Northern Norway
Master-uppsats, Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskapSammanfattning : Climate changes have been observed in the Northern Hemisphere during the last century, causing a longer growing season and upslope expansion of forest, tree, and shrub limits. Here, a long-term historical perspective was used as a tool for investigating how climate change has impacted woody plants at the forest, tree, and shrub limits across the study region. LÄS MER
3. Reindeer grazing, soil wetness and aspect interact to drive tundra plant community structure in northern Sweden
Master-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografiSammanfattning : The relative importance of abiotic versus biotic top-down factors on structuring tundra plant communities is debated. With climate change already strongly affecting the tundra ecosystem, understanding which factors will prevail is vital. LÄS MER
4. The secret life of moose : patterns of foraging and behaviour based on video collars
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental StudiesSammanfattning : To understand how moose forage in the wild, we have to study them without disturbing them then. Video cameras placed on moose are a novel method to study wild individuals without being intrusive. I analyzed video footage from four moose collars, filmed up to nine times a day and filmed from 4 to 11 months, for maximum of 4,5 minutes a day. LÄS MER
5. Direct and indirect effects of roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) herbivory on an island population of Chequered blue butterfly (Scolitantides orion).
Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildningSammanfattning : Herbivory by ungulates is a known agent of disturbance in many ecological systems around the globe. At high abundances and through a selective foraging behaviour herbivory may inflict significant direct and indirect effects on local plant and animal communities. LÄS MER
