  1. 6. Reconstructing Past Climate by Using XRF and Loss of Ignition on Loess from Adventdalen, Svalbard : Rekonstruktion av tidigare klimat genom attanvända XRF analys och antändningsförlust på lössavlagringar från Adventdalen, Svalbard

    Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Albin Andreasson; Noa Lind; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Svalbard; loess soil; XRF; weathering; climate change;

    Sammanfattning : By analyzing the texture, composition and chemical composition of loess soils, the reconstruction ofpast climate regimes is enabled, which can improve our understanding of current and future climatechange. Properties such as grain size and composition, mineralogy, organic matter and chemicalcomposition can provide information about which environmental factors were present during thedeposition of the sediment, which can lead to a detailed picture of the climate history of a site. 2. 7. Remote Sensing of Cryospheric Surfaces : Small Scale Surface Roughness Signatures in Satellite Altimetry Data

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Umeå universitet/Institutionen för fysik

    Författare :Petter Ideström; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Remote sensing; Altimetry; Arctic; Cryosphere; ICESat-2; Cryosat-2; Svalbard;

    Sammanfattning : The Arctic cryosphere is experiencing a higher rate of warming compared to the rest of the world due to Arctic amplification. As glacier elevation change provide reliable evidence of climate change it is routinely measured by satellite altimeters. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Applying LPJ-GUESS on the Arctic: A model evaluation and benchmarking study

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Margot Jeanne Knapen; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Physical Geography and Ecosystem Analysis; LPJ-GUESS; Arctic; FLUXNET; Gross Primary Productivity; Ecosystem Respiration; Permafrost; Active Layer Thickness; Snow Depth; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Warming in the Arctic occurs at a much higher rate than the global average, which has a considerable impact on the Arctic terrestrial carbon cycle. Permafrost thawing can release substantial amounts of carbon, whilst tundra shrubification and tree-line advance, on the other hand, may compensate for this. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Comparative genomics of Central Arctic Ocean microbiota for observation of Alternative Carbon Fixation Pathways

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Författare :Kaavya Venkateswaran; [2023]
    Nyckelord :comparative genomics; microbial ecology; bioinformatics; carbon fixation; pangenomics;

    Sammanfattning : The Central Arctic Ocean is a repository of rich and diverse biota, whose major portion is one of the most important drivers of global biogeochemical cycles, including carbon cycling. In this study, the functional potential of the microbiota to fix carbon with alternative carbon fixation pathways were investigated along with their chemolithotrophic characteristics. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Optimal foraging in an Arctic herbivore : How does the foraging behaviour of Svalbard reindeer (Rangifer tarandus platyrhynchus) respond to seasonal changes from summer through autumn of the Arctic tundra?

    Master-uppsats, Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Författare :Emma Limosa Djurberg; [2023]
    Nyckelord :foraging behaviour; phenology; ungulate; Arctic; Rangifer tarandus platyrhynchus;

    Sammanfattning : Foraging decisions of large herbivores can be affected by many factors and have great effect on both above- and below-ground ecosystems. Here, I determine to which degree temporal (seasonality), or spatial (habitat) factors influence the foraging behaviour of Svalbard reindeer (Rangifer tarandus platyrhynchus) and asses if small-scale foraging behaviour correlates with an animals’ patch residence time.
