  1. 1. A Case Study Evaluating the Performance of the NWP model HARMONIE in Simulating Convective Snowbands

    Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapslära

    Författare :Louise Jungefeldt; [2020]
    Nyckelord :Convective snow bands; Baltic Sea; HARMONIE; Snökanoner; Östersjön; HARMONIE;

    Sammanfattning : Convective snow bands forming over the Baltic Sea can result in heavy precipitation along the Swedish east coast. Forecasting these events well is of great importance to prevent road traffic injuries, increased pressure at hospitals and cancelled bus traffic. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Verification of HARMONIE-AROME, ECMWF-IFS and WRF: Visibility and Cloud Base Height

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapslära

    Författare :Elin Kindlundh; [2020]
    Nyckelord :HARMONIE-AROME; ECMWF-IFS; WRF; verification; visibility; cloud base height; HARMONIE-AROME; ECMWF-IFS; WRF; verifikation; sikt; molnbashöjd;

    Sammanfattning : Visibility and cloud base height are two important parameters within aviation meteorology and verification of operational numerical weather prediction (NWP) models with regard to these two parameters is therefore important. Visibility is often parameterized through an extinction coefficient, which is dependent on for example liquid or ice water content, however it also depends on the humidity, precipitation intensity and particle concentration. 3. 3. Impact of different atmospheric forcings on surface mass balance estimates in Greenland

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Stina Olandersson; [2018]
    Nyckelord :Physical Geography and Ecosystem analysis; surface mass balance; Greenland; climate models; numerical weather prediction models; surface energy balance; Arctic; climate change; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The Greenland Ice sheet (GIS) is the second largest ice sheet on Earth and thus stores a large amount of Earths freshwater. Because of climate change and the Arctic amplification, GIS is experiencing changes and increased melt rates. The total mass budget determines the amount of sea level rise caused by input from freshwater from the GIS. LÄS MER

  4. 4. A comparison of modelled precipitation in Greenland

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Förbränningsfysik

    Författare :Rebecca Vesterberg; [2017]
    Nyckelord :Greenland; precipitation; Surface mass balance; SMB; ice sheet; accumulation; ablation; sea level rise; Regional Climate Model; HIRHAM5; Numerical Weather Prediction model; HIRLAM7.3; biases; climate change; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : The Greenland ice sheet develops throughout the year with the changing weather condi- tions. Precipitation contributes by increasing the mass, whilst warmth induces melting, which makes the ice sheet diminish. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The Vertical Route Forecast : an Evaluation of a New Flight Path Based Weather Forecast Product with HARMONIE-AROME High Resolution Forecasts over Scandinavia

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapslära

    Författare :Ingela Leffler; [2017]
    Nyckelord :Vertical route forecast; Model evaluation; HARMONIE-AROME; GFS; Aviation weather; Vertikal ruttprognos; Modellutvärdering; HARMONIE-AROME; GFS; Flygväder;

    Sammanfattning : As a complement to existing weather forecast products for aviation, a prototype of a new product is presented and evaluated. It shows the atmosphere in a vertical cross section along the intended route. LÄS MER
