Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the significance of GIS for the Swedish police department’s location-based work and what opportunities GIS have to change their definition of the concepts of place and hot spots. To investigate this a conceptual framework consisting of theories of place, hotspots and the criminological theories and concepts routine activity theory, situational crime prevention and problem oriented policing has been used.
