    Sammanfattning : The subject of the study is the contemporary national identity of the Macedonians which reflects the actuality and importance of national identity and nationalism in present time. Grounding the research in theoretical frameworks which explore the shaping of national identity and the meaning of history in relation to it, using Rusen’s typology of historical narration as a methodological tool and pointing the impact national historical narratives in school education have in that creation, the research question is; how is national identity in the republic of Macedonia shaped today through national historical narration? The “significant for us in history” perspective framed with theoretical accounts about the significance of national identity aims to open up new perspectives in the discussion of the contemporary Macedonian identity.
