  1. 1. Estimating historic ranges of extinct scavenging birds from North America during the late Pleistocene using co-occurrence data from the fossil record

    Master-uppsats, Göteborgs universitet / Institutionen för biologi och miljövetenskap

    Författare :Melissa Miranda; [2023-06-30]
    Nyckelord :Scavenging birds; Vultures; Co-occurrence Data; Range Estimates; Spatial Autoregressive Models; Co-extinction;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of my study was to estimate and compare the historic range of nine scavenging birds from North America that went jointly extinct with their mammalian megafaunal prey in the Late Pleistocene. Although the severity and timing of their co-extinction are strongly correlated, there has been little analytical support in providing estimates for the possible geographic distribution of scavenging birds prior to the extinction event. 2. 2. Grain Size Analysis of Late Pleistocene Loess Deposits, Jersey

    Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Joakim Edlund; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Jersey; loess; grain size; ice age; past climate; Jersey; löss; kornstorlek; istid; forntida klimat;

    Sammanfattning : As the world faces the effects of rapid climate change it is essential that we understand how the Earth’s climate has evolved in recent geological history. The island of Jersey harbours loess deposits which hold clues to recent climate change which have not been extensively studied. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Relating early Human evolution to late Miocene - early Pliocene climate change

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Tika van Galen; [2020]
    Nyckelord :climate; evolution; climate change; hominins; bipedal locomotion; late Miocene; Pliocene;

    Sammanfattning : Human evolution has been linked to climate change multiple times in the literature. One of the more well-known theories is the ‘savannah’ theory, which states that walking upright became an advantageous character when climate in Africa changed causing drier environments, changing woodlands to savannahs. 4. 4. Paleoglaciological study of the Ahlmannryggen, Borgmassivet and Kirwanveggen nunatak ranges, Dronning Maud Land, East Antarctica, using WorldView imagery

    Master-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi

    Författare :Elena Serra; [2017]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Paleoglaciological reconstructions based on glacial geological and geomorphological evidence areused to constrain and test numerical models of ice sheet extent and dynamics. The MAGIC-DMLresearch project (“Mapping, Measuring and Modelling Antarctic Geomorphology and Ice Change, inDronning Maud Land”) is trying to reconstruct the timing and pattern of ice surface elevation changessince the mid-Pliocene across western Dronning Maud Land, East Antarctica. 5. 5. Size and Abundance of Late Pleistocene Reticulofenestrid Coccoliths from the Eastern Indian Ocean in Relation to Temperature and Aridity

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Jeroen van Dijk; [2017]
    Nyckelord :coccoliths; abundance; biometry; circular polarized light microscopy; Late Pleistocene; Marine Isotope Stage 11; kokkoliter; mängder; biometri; cirkulär polariserat ljus; pleistocen; Marine Isotope Stage 11;

    Sammanfattning : Measurements on coccolith abundance and mass can be used as a signal of primary productivity and pelagic calcification in response to environmental change. The Leeuwin Current (LC) is known to transport warm and low-salinity waters from the Indo-Pacific Warm Pool (IPWP) southwards along the coast of West Australia. LÄS MER
