2. Fire effects in a landscape of fear : food availability and perceived predation risk as potential determinants of patch utilization by herbivore prey
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental StudiesSammanfattning : Context: A major effect of climatic change is the global increase in forest fires, which potentially creates an increase in food availability for herbivorous species. Also vegetation density and the numbers of tree logs increase in burned sites, and this is thought to influence the perceived risk of herbivore prey species, which affects their anti‐predator behaviour and thereby the patch utilization. 3. The apparent population crash in heath-hares Lepus timidus sylvaticus of southern Sweden : do complex ecological processes leave detectable fingerprints in long-term hunting bag records?
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental StudiesSammanfattning : Scientific and circumstantial evidence of recent decades indicate decreasing population trends in the native mountain hares Lepus timidus of Fennoscandia (Finland, Sweden, Norway). It has been suggested that climate warming, habitat degradation, pathogens, predation and interspecific competition are potential candidates to drive this supposed decline. LÄS MER
4. On the origin of the mountain hare on the island of Gotland : By means of ancient DNA analysis
Master-uppsats, Arkeologiska forskningslaboratorietSammanfattning : The island of Gotland houses a number of terrestrial mammalian species even though it was covered with ice during the last glacial period. The purpose of this study is to genetically analyse the mountain hare (Lepus timidus) to deduce its origin and genetic structure during different time periods, and also to discuss how it reached the island.
