Genom flyktingkonventionen får flyktingar rätt till flertalet rättigheter och alla personer som uppfyller flyktingdefinitionen har rätt att söka skydd i någon av de 150 stater som anslutit sig till konventionen, inkluderat EU:s medlemsländer.
