  1. 1. Phenotypic plasticity of blue mussels under threat from different predators

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Författare :Jerker Melin; [2017]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : My study confirms that there are phenotypic plastic traits in blue mussels (Mytilus edulis) inresponse to predatory pressure from shore crabs (Carcinus maenas) and sea stars (Asteriasrubens) and a combination of them. Blue mussels can sense predators by olfactory cues fromthe predators themselves, or by alarm cues from attacked conspecifics, and then developinducible defences. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Phenotypic plasticity of the heart and skeletal muscles in cold acclimated Red Junglefowls (Gallus gallus)

    Kandidat-uppsats, Linköpings universitet/Biologi

    Författare :Emma Ingeström; [2015]
    Nyckelord :Cold acclimation; heart; gastrocnemius; pectoralis; plasticity; Red Jungelfowl;

    Sammanfattning : The ability of the heart and skeletal muscles to remodel to environmental demands, their plasticity, is of interest when studying animals’ adaptation to environment changes. Temperature variation due to seasonal change seems to lead to the development of a cold acclimated phenotype in small birds. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Long-term strength training reverses the effects of aging on skeletal muscle of health elderly men.

    Master-uppsats, Örebro universitet/Institutionen för hälsovetenskap och medicin

    Författare :Muhammad Mustafa Qamar; [2012]
    Nyckelord :Aging; Muscle mass; Muscle plasticity; Long-term strength training;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction:  Aging is related to a gradual decline in skeletal muscle mass, which is associated with morphological modifications such as reduced muscle fiber cross-sectional area and satellite cell content. Data also suggest that a short-term strength training period can be an effective instrument to rejuvenate these morphological parameters and to restore muscle mass. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Correlation Analysis of Calcium Signalling Networks in Living Cells

    Master-uppsats, KTH/Tillämpad fysik

    Författare :Erik Nilsson; [2008]
    Nyckelord :Cell signalling; Calcium; Networks; Correlation Analysis; Embryonic Stem Cells;

    Sammanfattning : In living cells, calcium ions (Ca2+) play an important role as an intracellular second messenger. It mediates the regulation of cellular processes such as gene expression, initiation of vesicle fusion in synapses, is used in muscle contraction and is believed to play a fundamental role in synaptic plasticity as a molecular substrate for learning.
