  1. 1. Carta ex Machina: Testing object-based machine learning and unsupervised classification in land use change detection mapping in the semi-arid governorate of Sidi Bouzid, Tunisia

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Kristian Emil Havnsgaard Paludan; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Change detection; Land use mapping; LANDSAT MSS; LANDSAT TM; GEOBIA; Random Forest classification; ISODATA cluster classification; Object-based classification; Semi-arid agriculture; Irrigation mapping; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Sidi Bouzid, Tunisia is an inland governorate in Tunisia that has undergone a rapid agricultural and urban development since the Tunisian independence in 1952 from being a rural and largely nomadic region into a hub of irrigated agriculture. In 2010 Mohamed Bouazizi sparked the Tunisian revolution by lighting himself on fire int he city of Sidi Bouzid, with some blaming the inequality and water scarcity created by this rapid expansion in the irrigation farming as an important cause (Bayat, 2017; Malka, 2018). 2. 2. Spatio-temporal drought characteristics in the Limpopo basin from 1918 to 2018 - A case study based on analysis of the Standardized Precipitation Evaporation Index (SPEI)

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Sandra Domingos Sambo; [2021]
    Nyckelord :rdought; Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index; Limpopo River basin; Normalized difference vegetation index; Mann-Kendall Test; Correlation analysis; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The identification of the characteristics of drought are of great importance in water resources planning and management. This study explored the characteristics of drought at Limpopo River Basin (LRB) from 1918 to 2018. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Dynamics of net primary production and food availability in the aftermath of the 2004 and 2007 desert locust outbreaks in Niger and Yemen

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Emma Bylund; [2021]
    Nyckelord :geography; GIS; desert locust outbreak; NPP; food availability; livelihood zones; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The knowledge of desert locust plagues goes back to biblical times but it is just as relevant in 2020 with an ongoing outbreak in East Africa and the Middle East. The locusts pose a threat to agriculture, and by extent food availability, due to their high appetite, diverse diet and ability to migrate long distances in large swarms. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Remote Sensing Based Pre-Season Yellow Rust Early Warning in Oromia, Ethiopia

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Chinatsu Endo; [2021]
    Nyckelord :yellow rust; modeling; prediction; early warning; remote sensing; geography; geographical information systems; GIS; Agriculture and Food Sciences; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Yellow rust (Puccinia striiformis f. sp. Tritici) is a crop disease caused by a fungus that regularly infects wheat and causes yield loss in Ethiopia. The disease has a significant impact on the country’s crop production, food security, health, and socioeconomic well-being. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Influence of permafrost disintegration on wetland carbon fluxes in Abisko, Sweden

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Aida Esmailzadeh Davani; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Physical Geography; Ecosystem Analysis; Permafrost; CH4 flux; CO2 flux; Abisko; Wetlands; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The northern permafrost regions are experiencing a rapid warming as surface temperatures are rising, causing a disintegration of permafrost and a deepening of the active layer (AL). This releases previously frozen carbon, making it available for decomposition by microbes. LÄS MER
