Though Spain contains the largest amount of land dedicated to vine growing globally and is home to over 4,300 wineries, the Spanish wine industry only has one industry-specific sustainability certification scheme, Wineries for Climate Protection, of which a mere 23 wineries are certified. 9. Picking up the PISA? Teacher certification and student achievement in Sweden
D-uppsats, Handelshögskolan i Stockholm/Institutionen för nationalekonomiSammanfattning : In an effort to raise the status of teachers and increase the quality and equity of Swedish education by ensuring competent teachers, a national and subject-specific teacher certification was introduced in 2011, despite scant evidence in favor of teacher certification. This thesis attempts to answer the question: What effect do certified teachers in Sweden have on ninth grade student achievement? By applying fixed effects models to school-level panel data spanning the academic years 2014/2015-2018/2019, this study finds that certified teachers have significant and positive effects on student achievement in mathematics, at least in terms of standardized national test results. But how well do these two kinds of sustainability schemes improve the cocoa farmers’ income? This thesis investigates the major factors affecting the income among cocoa farmers certified under Fairtrade and Fair for life, and non-certified cocoa farmers participating in Olam’s own sustainability program in the provinces of Guayas and Manabi, in the coastal region of Ecuador.
