  1. 1. Scots pine for fika : the role of local moose density in determining browsing damages to pine across commercial forests in Sweden

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Ecology

    Författare :Rebecca Partemi; [2022]
    Nyckelord :moose; Scots pine; browsing damage; forestry; Äbin;

    Sammanfattning : By browsing on young Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris), moose (Alces alces) can cause significant damage to commercial forests. The National Forest Agency monitors browsing damage and moose faecal pellet groups annually on pre-defined plots throughout Sweden. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Comparison of existing ZOI estimation methods with different model specifications and data.

    Master-uppsats, Högskolan Dalarna/Mikrodataanalys

    Författare :Shraddha Mukhopadhyay; [2020]
    Nyckelord :Zone of Influence; reindeer; pellet group count; logistic regression; segmented model; Hierarchical Likelihood; Adaptive Lasso; threshold; breakpoint;

    Sammanfattning : With the increasing demand and interest in wind power worldwide, it is interesting to study the effects of running windfarms on the activity of reindeers and estimate the associated Zone of Influence (ZOI) relative to these disturbances. Through simulation, Hierarchical Likelihood (HL) and adaptive Lasso methods are used to estimate the ZOI of windfarms and catching the correct threshold at which the negative effect of the disturbances on the reindeer behaviour disappears. 3. 3. Comparison of three different indirect methods to evaluate ungulate population densities

    Magister-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental Studies

    Författare :Sabine Pfeffer; [2016]
    Nyckelord :wildlife ecology; density estimates; camera trapping - random encounter model; dung pellet group counts;

    Sammanfattning : Reliable species population estimates are important for population conservation and management. Information about population sizes is needed to introduce certain preservation and regulation approaches. Several different methods, both performed in the field and analytical, can be used to estimate species densities. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Pellet group count of roe deer ( Capreolus capreolus ) at Herrevad Abbey : How has the hunting affected the population and how will it develop?

    Kandidat-uppsats, Sektionen för ekonomi och teknik (SET)

    Författare :Cecilia Olsson; [2011]
    Nyckelord :Pellet-group count; roe deer; Herrevad Abbey; Capreolus capreolus; Spillningsinventering; rådjur; Herrevadskloster;

    Sammanfattning : The land around Herrevad Abbey consists mostly of pastures with a lot of old coarse oaks, a touch of broad-leaved decidous forest andmixed deciduous and coniferous forest. In the year 2010 the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency became owner of the area around Herrevad Abbey, previously owned by the Swedish National Fortification Administration. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Comparison of plot survey and distance sampling as pellet group counts for deer in Sweden

    Kandidat-uppsats, Institutionen för vård och natur

    Författare :Anneli Eckervall; [2008]
    Nyckelord :pellet group count; distance sampling; plot survey; deer; dropping; density estimation; Sweden; supplementary feeding; spillningsinventering; vinterutfodring;

    Sammanfattning : Wildlife management deals with problems concerning sustainable harvest, conservation of threatened species and adjustment of wildlife populations to levels acceptable to for instance forestry, agriculture, traffic and conservation interests. A detailed knowledge of the population is then required. LÄS MER
