    Sammanfattning : Does music tempo enhance sales and consumer behavior? Based on the framework developed in a newly published PhD report from Stockholm School of Economics and by regarding the effects caused by social density, this study attempted to clarify the results observed in previous studies, with the purpose of examining whether high or low tempo music is best suited for consumers, whose shopper motives are utilitarian, in a functional environment. Results from a field study, conducted in a Swedish supermarket, through observing transaction data and a distributed questionnaire, showed following results: high tempo music generated higher number of items purchased to a greater amount when the social density in the store was high, while consumers, during this condition, expressed a lower perceived crowding in the store, compared to low tempo.
