  1. 1. Preimplantation genetic diagnosis and therapy in humans- Opportunities and risks

    Master-uppsats, Örebro universitet/Institutionen för medicinska vetenskaper

    Författare :Rickard Hedberg; [2020]
    Nyckelord :Preimplantation genetic diagnosis; CRISPR-Cas systems; gene editing; germline; genome; ethics; autonomy; beneficence; risks.;

    Sammanfattning : IntroductionPreimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) was developed in the 1990s and has been used since to diagnose and discard embryos with genetic conditions or chromosomal abnormalities. CRISPR-Cas9 was discovered in 2012 and has been used in research, but has not become clinical practice on humans yet. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Morphological evaluation of blastocyst after vitrification depending on treatment modality

    M1-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Forskargrupper (Inst. för kvinnor och barns hälsa)

    Författare :Alexander Tovar Tovar Perez; [2018]
    Nyckelord :embryo biopsy; assisted reproductive technology; embryo morphology; preimplantation genetic diagnosis; refrozen;

    Sammanfattning : Assisted reproductive technology procedures has become a more complex treatment over the years after implementation of preimplantation genetic diagnostics and cryopreservation methods such as slow freeze and vitrification. When embryos undergo these methods they are exposed to external damage that threaten to affect their quality and thereby lead to lower survival rates and lower pregnancy rates. LÄS MER

  3. 3. PGD på vinst och förlust. Etik och värden i den svenska politiska debatten kring preimplantatorisk genetisk diagnostik.

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Statsvetenskapliga institutionen

    Författare :Hjalmar Elisson; [2010]
    Nyckelord :Sverige; debatt; värden; etik; PGD; Social Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is a relatively new technique which allows for parents to choose an embryo for implantation based on genetic information obtained from different embryos. The technique has potenatial beneficial effects such as the elimination and treatment of genetic disorders, but is also highly controversial due to its ethical and moral aspects, and the possible future scenarios of its uses. 4. 4. Etiska aspekter av preimplantatorisk genetisk diagnostik och genterapi

    Magister-uppsats, Institutionen för fysik, kemi och biologi

    Författare :Anna-Lena Brusman; [2007]
    Nyckelord :biotechnology; embryo; human dignity; opportunities; risks;

    Sammanfattning : The research in the field of biotechnology is rapidly developing all over the world. Modern biotechnology offers unique opportunities, simultaneously as it gives rise to a number of ethical issues. Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), PGD/HLA (Human Leucocyte Antigen) and germline gene therapy (GLGT) are controversial techniques. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Why Use Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis to Ensure the Birth of a Deaf Child? Or Rather, Why Not?

    Magister-uppsats, Centrum för tillämpad etik

    Författare :Cristina Joy Guerrero; [2006]
    Nyckelord :Preimplantation genetic diagnosis; medical model of disease; social model of disability; deaf; Deaf community;

    Sammanfattning : The more geneticists discover about which genes cause what traits, the more medical practitioners as well as ethicists will have to deal with questions such as which of the myriad of identifiable conditions could or should be allowed for preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) and subsequent implantation via in vitro fertilization. Not a lot of controversy seems to be raised when it comes to performing PGD for serious genetic conditions such as Tay-Sachs disease or Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, but what about other characteristics, for example, those which we normally would call disabilities? This thesis tackles this question, and in partifular the possibility of implanting embryos with that screen positive for deafness, as deaf parents, especially those coming from the Deaf community who see their condition as a positive part of their identity and cultural belongingness, have expressed interest in ensuring the birth of a deaf child.
