Med rötterna i en jämförelse av hur ludologer och spelteoretiker närmar sig ämnet försöker uppsatsen sedan bredda perspektiven genom att jämföra den narratologiska strukturen hos spelet med mer konventionella medier för berättande, såsom filmer och litteratur.
