    Sammanfattning : Article 8 of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (hereinafter referred to as the European Con-vention) states that everyone within the jurisdiction of a Contracting State shall be guaranteed a right to family life. The meaning of the right is above all that the individual enjoys protection against interference from the public sector which may constitute a violation of the individual's right to family life.     Sammanfattning : Focusing on the readmission agreement between Sweden and Afghanistan, this study aims to enhance our understanding of why and how states use readmission agreements and the discourse underpinning these practices. Based on interviews with key officials working in the Swedish deportation infrastructure, the findings show that the agreement is presented as a successful measure resulting in a more predictable process and increased forced returns. The ultimate aim of these agreements is to reduce irregular migration to Schengen territory, something that has been percieved as an increasingly urgent issue for European policy makers in the wake of the 2015 'migration crisis'.     Sammanfattning : The present study aims to analyse, from a functional perspective, the Swedish transla­tion of an administrative text about how the border control in France is organised in cooperation between the border police and customs authorities. It is an informative text produced by French authorities at the request of the European Commission, and the translation for a Swedish-speaking audience in a national context (as opposed to a supranational, institutional one) will have a slightly different aim – or skopos, referring to the concept developed by Vermeer.
