  1. 1. Sustainable use of calcium nitrate fertilizer under variable precipitation, soil properties and crop management

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Soil and Environment

    Författare :Liliana Marcela Daza Gomez; [2023]
    Nyckelord :nitrogen.; calcium nitrate; ammonium-based fertilizers; urea; nitrate leaching; nitrous oxide emissions; crop yield;

    Sammanfattning : Application of nitrogen fertilizers in agriculture contributes substantially to global greenhouse gas emissions and nitrogen leaching. Accordingly, there is a need to increase knowledge about sustainable farming practices to reduce nitrogen losses to the environment without curtailing crop harvest. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Assessing the Impacts of Climate Change and Water Scarcity on Agricultural Practices in Kenya -Implications for Adaptation Strategies

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Sanjina Rahi Oishee; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Climate Change; Agriculture; Temperature; Precipitation; Water Scarcity; Agro-Climatic Zone; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Like other African countries, Kenya’ economy and food security is heavily dependent on agriculture. Climate change has led to variability in temperature and precipitation, and extreme weather events such as droughts and floods, all of which can significantly impact crop productivity and food security in the long-term. 3. 3. Carta ex Machina: Testing object-based machine learning and unsupervised classification in land use change detection mapping in the semi-arid governorate of Sidi Bouzid, Tunisia

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Kristian Emil Havnsgaard Paludan; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Change detection; Land use mapping; LANDSAT MSS; LANDSAT TM; GEOBIA; Random Forest classification; ISODATA cluster classification; Object-based classification; Semi-arid agriculture; Irrigation mapping; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Sidi Bouzid, Tunisia is an inland governorate in Tunisia that has undergone a rapid agricultural and urban development since the Tunisian independence in 1952 from being a rural and largely nomadic region into a hub of irrigated agriculture. In 2010 Mohamed Bouazizi sparked the Tunisian revolution by lighting himself on fire int he city of Sidi Bouzid, with some blaming the inequality and water scarcity created by this rapid expansion in the irrigation farming as an important cause (Bayat, 2017; Malka, 2018). 4. 4. Modelling gross primary production in semi-arid regions: effects on carbon uptake of intensive agriculture in southern Kenya

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Malin Ahlbäck; [2020]
    Nyckelord :Physical Geography; Ecosystem Analysis; GPP; Africa; Kenya; Land cover changes; Cropland; Remote sensing; Sentinel-2; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aim: Gross primary production (GPP) is the largest global carbon (C) flux and an important component for counteracting anthropogenic CO2 emissions, understanding vegetation dynamics, and sustaining universal human standards. Africa plays a prominent role in the global C cycle, though our understanding of GPP dynamics is largely hampered by a paucity of ground-based observations. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Evaluation of water stress mapping methods in vineyards using airborne thermal imaging

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Alon Zuta; [2020]
    Nyckelord :Geography; Geographical information systems; GIS; Remote sensing; Cover crop; Thermal imaging; Spatial variability; vineyards; interpolation; water stress index; CWSI; Ig; stem water potential; UAV; Rheingau; Interpolation.; Agriculture and Food Sciences; Biology and Life Sciences; Technology and Engineering; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : With low cost and high efficiency, use of airborne infrared thermography imaging from an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has become a widely used technique to measure plant water stress. With that, the use of UAV mounted thermal camera as a precision agriculture technique to map crop water stress is not trivial and its success is depended on variety of factors which are still needed to be studied and understood.
