1. Parentage Assignment using genetic markers in the common carp (Cyprinus carpio)
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Breeding and GeneticsSammanfattning : This study investigated the effect of varying single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) marker density, error threshold selection, and different SNP selection strategies on parentage assignment accuracy in carp populations. Using a marker set of 15,615 SNPs, we found a positive correlation between the quantity of SNP markers and the accuracy of parentage assignments, consistent with existing literature. LÄS MER
2. Demography of Birch Populations across Scandinavia
Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Växtekologi och evolution; Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildningSammanfattning : Boreal forests are particularly vulnerable to climate change, experiencing a much more drastic increase in temperatures and having a limited amount of more northern refugia. The trees making up these vast and important ecosystems already had to adapt previously to environmental pressures brought about by the repeated glaciations during past ice ages. LÄS MER
3. Structural variation identification in non-reference cattle breed genomes
Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildningSammanfattning : Cattle are essential for the global food industry through the meat and milk production. It is from an economical point of view in our best interest to make cattle as efficient as possible, whether it is milk or beef production, without negatively influencing their health and welfare. 4. Who calls the African Wild Dog? : de novo SNP discovery and genotyping in the Lycaon pictus
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental StudiesSammanfattning : Large carnivores, especially the African wild dog, Lycaon pictus, are vulnerable to human-mediated changes and climate effects. As they are apex predators, they also affect lower trophic levels. Due to anthropogenic land-use changes affecting habitat, prey, and population densities, large carnivore populations are declining. 5. De novo SNP Discovery in the Spotted Hyena (Crocuta crocuta)
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental StudiesSammanfattning : Relatedness studies of wild populations using reliable high-quality genetic markers enhance our understanding of a species’ behavior and ecology. Spotted hyenas (Crocuta crocuta) have a matriarchal social structure, unique amongst carnivores. LÄS MER
