  1. 11. Long-term effects of organic and mineral fertilizer application on physical soil properties and maize yield in western Kenya

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Soil and Environment

    Författare :Paulina Cebula; [2013]
    Nyckelord :farm fertility gradients; aggregate stability; infiltration rate; bulk density; organic carbon; Kenya;

    Sammanfattning : To evaluate the effects of long-term application of organic and mineral fertilizers on maize yield and soil properties and further to investigate differences in soil fertility gradients, the Tropical Soil Biology and Fertility Institute of the International Centre for Tropical Agriculture (TSBF-CIAT) conducted an 8- year experiment on 12 farms in the districts Nyalgunga, Nyabeda and Vihiga in the Western Province of Kenya. The study was designed as a split plot model where each farm was split into high and low fertility plots on which the following treatments were applied: T2 – no fertilizer application (control), T4 – application of farmyard manure (FYM) alone and T5 – combined application of FYM, Mavuno fertilizer and top dressing. 2. 12. The effect of push-pull management and different fertilization strategies on maize crop yield in central Kenya

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Swedish Biodiversity Centre

    Författare :Peterson Newton Muchiri Njeru; [2009]
    Nyckelord :Soil fertility; central Kenya highlands; manure; fodders; fertilizer; smallholder farmers; ‘push-pull’; monoculture; Kenya;

    Sammanfattning : The high population pressure in central Kenya has lead to continuous cultivation with minimal application of nutrient, resulting in nutrient depletion. A study was conducted to determine the effect of 'Push-pull' (intercropping maize with desmodium and napier grass) strategy management and nitrogen application on maize grain yield and soil fertility on smallholder farmer’s fields in three districts of central Kenya highlands. 3. 13. Effect of irrigation and nitrogen treatments on yield, quality, plant nitrogen uptake and soil nitrogen status and the evaluation of sap test, SPAD chlorophyll meter and Dualex to monitor nitrogen status in broccoli

    L3-uppsats, SLU/Horticulture

    Författare :Rickard Mellgren; [2008]
    Nyckelord :broccoli; Brassica oleracea ssp italica; nitrogen; irrigation; leaching; yield; hollow stem; plant uptake; sap test; SPAD; Dualex;

    Sammanfattning : Broccoli (Brassica oleracea L. ssp. italica) is a crop benefiting greatly from nitrogen fertilization and the risk of leaching to groundwater is high. Nine N fertilizer treatments, from 0 to 225 kg N/ha and two irrigation treatments, irrigated and non-irrigated, were arranged in a split-plot design. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Kvickrotsstudier: 1. Kvickrotens reaktion på myllningsdjup, kvävemängd och kväveplacering i konkurrens med gröda. 2. Reducerad glyfosatanvändning på trädad åkermark

    L3-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Soil Sciences

    Författare :Sam Forsberg; [2005]
    Nyckelord :glyfosat; fånggröda; putsning; stubbearbetning; kväveplacering; kvävetillgång; kvickrot; konkurrens;

    Sammanfattning : 1. Reaction on burial depth and nitrogen availability and placement in competition with a crop In this trial it was investigated how couch grass (Elymus repens) changes its ability to compete in stands of wheat and barley with different burial depth and different amounts and placement of nitrogen. 5. 15. Effect of nitrate on the germination of a soil seed bank in a Norway spruce forest in relation to liming and clear-felling

    L3-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Ecology

    Författare :Miquel Anglès Marín; [2004]
    Nyckelord :nitrate; seed-bank; liming; clear-felling; germination; Calluna vulgaris;

    Sammanfattning : Three different kinds of humus were tested in order to examine the effect of nitrate on the germination of the seed bank of a Norway spruce experimental forest at Farabol in the south-west of Sweden: 15 years old stand without soil treatment, 15 years old stand with lime treatment (in total 6000 kg/ha limestone distributed over 12 years), and 40 years old stand without soil treatment. Using a split-plot design, three solutions were applied to the soil (0. LÄS MER
