1. Energy improvement options for a small-scale brewery: a literature study
Magister-uppsats, Högskolan i Gävle/Energisystem och byggnadsteknikSammanfattning : In the age of technology and development in which we live nowadays, it is inevitable to realise that this so-called progress is translated into pollution, damage to the environment and abuse of energy and fossil fuels. The companies and factories that produce the goods we need, use a lot of energy and pollute in massive ways, posing dilemmas such as how to make these companies more energetically and environmentally efficient, with the aim of decreasing the emissions and energy use. 2. Process design for utilizing spent grain as a potential energy source for craft breweries
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Kemiteknik (CI)Sammanfattning : Craft breweries in Sweden are steadily increasing and they face a major challenge with the byproduct that is generated in the brewing process. The by-product is called wet spent grain (WSG) and the biggest challenge lays in its’ high moisture content which will make it spoil within a few days. LÄS MER
3. Evaluating Sugar Signaling during Xylose Oxidation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Teknisk mikrobiologiSammanfattning : The sugar signaling state of cells oxidizing xylose was investigated through the chromosomal integration of the Weimberg pathway into previously established biosensor strains capable of monitoring the Snf3p/Rgt2p, SNF1/Mig1p, and cAMP/PKA pathways through the expression of HXT1, SUC2, and TPS1, respectively. Ultimately, two new strains were successfully developed containing both the Weimberg pathway and a biosensor for either HXT1 (TMB CB 112) or TPS1 (TMB CB 117). LÄS MER
4. Corporate Social Responsibility into the 21st century : Brewing a better future?
Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för arkeologi och antik historiaSammanfattning : Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), a field still under development, has already seen different phases. With new technological advancements and the demand for ethical business growing –how has history affected the theory and practice in this field? Is Corporate Social Responsibility moving into new directions, and how do global players deal with challenges in the field while trying to stay ahead of their competition? 5. Drinking locally: The implications, from a sustainability perspective, of emerging Belgian microbreweries
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Internationella miljöinstitutetSammanfattning : In similarity to other European countries and the USA, Belgium, has been facing an emergence of microbreweries in the last decade. However, given the environmental footprint and, particularly, the water footprint of beer as well as the fact that microbreweries can sometimes lag behind in energy efficiency or water usage, it is worth considering the sustainability implications of this trend.
