1. Activity patterns of African buffalo (Syncerus caffer) and the transmission of East Coast Fever (ECF) to domestic cattle in Laikipia County, Kenya
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Clinical SciencesSammanfattning : In this study we examined the potential connection between East Coast Fever (ECF) and the local activity pattern of African buffalo in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy (OPC), in Laikipia county, Kenya. Buffalo activity was examined at OPC’s wildlife corridors, which work as the only gates for the animals to pass in and out of the area, by looking at approximately 32 000 pictures taken by infra-red cameras during the year 2019. 2.
3. Risky places and risky times : vegetation cover and carnivore olfactory cues influence patch selection and antipredator behavior of African ungulates
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental StudiesSammanfattning : Foraging behaviour and vigilance of African ungulates are considered to be influenced by their perception of predation risk. In this experiment, I tried to obtain a better understanding of the relative importance of spatial and temporal drivers of perceived predation risk for African ungulates of various sizes. LÄS MER
4. Micro habitat selection of herbivores in response to perceived predation risk and forage quality in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi game reserve
Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental StudiesSammanfattning : Predators can affect prey in many ways both through direct predation and by altering their prey’s behavior and spatial distribution. Habitat selection for prey animals is therefore a trade-off between resource availability and predation risk. LÄS MER
5. Impact of bush fire on grazing behaviour of herbivores in Masai Mara
L3-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Environment and HealthSammanfattning : Fire is commonly used in African savannas to remove long, dry, low-nutritious grass and generate fresh grass, both for livestock and wildlife. Since different herbivore species have different demands on amount and quality of biomass, bush fires might change the composition of the herbivore community. LÄS MER
